I've got to stop believing [family member] when he reports the news. He said there had been hundreds of Americans taken hostage in MC last night. I was skeptical because it didn't make sense but he kept reporting new developments every 15 minutes, so I assumed something was happening and didn't check other sources. Losing a few mana is a small price if I take this lesson to heart.
