Resolve yes if the next president of France be from a left-wing party.
Resolve N/A if there is a general disagreement about him/her being left-wing or not.
Resolve no otherwise.

  • Update 2026-07-12 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): If a candidate wins whose left-wing status is disputed (e.g. PS), and bettors disagree on the resolution, the market will resolve N/A.

Is Macron's Renaissance left-wing? According to Wikipedia -- no. But for this market's purposes?

previuYES

@Inosen_Infinity No, he isn’t left-wing at all

@dionisos more generally you might want to list major parties that you consider left wing. Some people for example don't consider PS as left wing.

@Jo2e2b you are right. I think PS should count as left, let's se if someone disagree and i will add it to the description

@dionisos PS is a pro finance, pro capitalist party. Definitively not left. A left party would not give 40b (1/3 of the yearly country budget) to CAC40 companies in the name of economic growth.

@GP I personally agree, but it is my opinion and they are still generally considered left, this is why I thought I should count it as left for this market.
Anyway I think they will not win and this case will not be a problem. But if they win and bettors disagree on the resolution, the market will resolve N/A.

Honestly I should have thought about it a little more when I created the market, but it would be unfair to change it now. I hope we will get a clear case (which is not far-right).

@dionisos PS is clearly a left-wing party.

@MachiNi I think they were clearly left-wing before, but they have shifted to the right.
I am really unsure why we should consider it a left-wing party now, and with which definition.
On the other hand, most sources consider it is a left-wing party, and they are at the left of the current government.
I hope if it happens, we will just all agree on a decision for the resolution (I will only consider honest disagreements and arguments, someone disagreeing just because he wants it to resolve N/A will not count), I would like to not change the resolution criteria again, that would seem unfair.
I am ok to consider it is a left-wing party, but I don't want to ignore people disagreeing with it with good reasons.

@dionisos you may think leftwing parties have shifted to the right but that doesn’t make them rightwing. They’re what we’d call center-left. And even then they’re more left wing than most of the democrats. Left and right are positional labels. Leftists, in France and in the US, are confusing their dislike of historically progressive parties becoming more moderate for the relative position of those parties. The PS in France is still to the left of the centrist parties (Macronists and MODEM), to say nothing of the Républicains and National Front. They were part of the new popular front a couple of years ago. Like you I don’t think they’ll win. But if they did and it didn’t count for this market I’d be very pissed.

A better test than disgruntled leftists is this. Do rightwing parties consider you leftwing? Do you consider yourself leftwing? I say if the answer to both questions is YES then you’re leftwing regardless of what parties to the left of you say. It is typical of the far left to consider anything to the right of them as reactionary or complicit in reaction. That’s not a good standard.

@MachiNi I think you are probably right.
