The NBA has repeatedly discussed adding an expansion team (in particular in Seattle or Las Vegas). The commissioner, Adam Silver, has stated his priorities are to first set a new CBA, organize media rights, and then move attention to expansion.

The players' CBA was completed on April '23, and the negotiating window with current media partners begins in March '24.

One of the major speculated expansion destinations, Las Vegas, hosted the inaugural in-season tournament, and is the site for the NBA Summer League.
