Tesla and Elon Musk have been pushing the boundaries of battery technology. This market asks whether Tesla will announce or release a revolutionary long-term battery or new energy storage technology that can last months or even years without needing a recharge — a breakthrough that could significantly reduce global dependence on oil and fossil fuels.

Resolves YES if Tesla officially announces or ships a verified consumer or commercial product with battery/energy tech lasting 3+ months on a single charge by end of 2030.

Resolves NO otherwise.

a battery can last 3mo without usage. if they make an electric skateboard with low assumed usage, this could also qualify. would you be comfortable specifying in Joules? eg "the vehicle must have a battery pack with a 3 gigajoule capacity" (based on annual energy usage estimates for Model 3)

Betting NO at 22%. My estimate: ~5%.

Current best-in-class EV batteries (Tesla 4680 cells) deliver ~300-400 miles per charge. For a vehicle to go 3+ months without charging at average US driving (1,125 mi/month), you would need 3,375+ mile range — roughly 8-10x current capacity. Solid-state batteries might deliver 2-3x by 2030; nothing on any roadmap approaches 8-10x.

The resolution criteria could theoretically be met by a very low-power commercial device (sensor, beacon), but Tesla does not operate in that space and the spirit of the question is clearly about transformative energy storage.

What would change my mind: a fundamental physics breakthrough in energy density (not incremental chemistry improvements), or Tesla acquiring a company with genuinely novel storage tech. Neither appears imminent.
