Does the market cap website passively assume that if everyone with shares in a company sold them back to the company then that company will still have the same market power? Maybe the share price will change as more shares are sold.

There's a graph on these showing how the worldwide market cap has been (on average) increasing over time. Kind of interested to know if this represents anything real-world.
